The writing group Write Together have researched the history of the railways in the North East and written prose and poetry on the subject. This includes pieces about the Flying Scotsman and about South Shields Railway Station.
Ryton is a former coal mining community which has seen many changes in the last century. Ryton Local History Society has set up their own web site documenting this change.
