Twentieth Century Whickham

Whickham U3A's CD-Rom

Whickham Urban District incorporated the villages of Dunston, Swalwell, Marley Hill, Sunniside and Streetgate as well as Whickham itself.

The group's research has led them to produce their own web site, CD Rom and audio CDs about the area.

The web site and CD Rom look at the history, industry, buildings, leisure facilities, celebrations, and people of the area. Historical fact, residents photographs and reminiscences all feature.

The CD Rom (cover above) is for sale from local libraries or from the group itself for just £4 plus postage and packaging. Contact the group at 10 Barlow Lane, Winlaton, Gateshead NE21 6EE or e-mail them

A series of three audio CDs and tapes have also been produced by the group. These are based around the memories recorded by the group as they interviewed members of the community during their research. They include many childhood memories, war time stories and historical anecdotes about the whole of Whickham Urban District. Please contact the Web Wanderers for further details or to purchase a copy.
