Stanley Local History Group

Stanley Local History

In 1998 a group of people who shared an interest in the history of Stanley met with the view to promoting, researching and creating a picture of the way in which the community has developed. This resulted in the Stanley Local History Society being founded in May 1999.

The group aims to provide an informative and interesting record of the history of the Stanley area from the Roman conquest and settlement to the present day.

The  project concentrated on the creation of a web site. The grant they received help enable a web site to be designed for the group and they were also trained to be able to maintain, update and have direct control over the site The society aimed to allow access to local history information from the Stanley area to be made available both locally, regionally and nationally via the internet.

Subjects which they hope to cover include, early history, local mining and industry, leisure and entertainment and religion.
